I’m Going to Miss You

February 26, 2018

Recently,  I have been preoccupied with thoughts of the future. Building my career, setting goals, saving money, and focusing on all of the ways life is going to change when Megan and I move down south this summer.

It wasn’t until last week that I finally started realizing just how much I’ll be leaving behind. I’ve written about this time and time again, but it really is startling to me how much we can take for granted the beauty around us. I mean, how lucky am I to have called this magical place home for the last seven years!?

I sometimes forget that not everybody can be sitting mountain-top in the sun just half and hour after the idea pops into their head or zipping around the Statue of Liberty in their (almost) father-in-law’s boat just because they feel like it.

Asheville is beautiful and mountainous as well, and I can’t wait for the adventures Megan I will get to share there with our family. Still, the Hudson Valley watched me grow, and I feel connected to it in a way that is irreplaceable.

I went to college here, started my career here, and met the love of my life here. And I’m going to miss it.

Last week, Megan and I headed up to Lake Minnewaska to remember just how much we appreciate it. Somehow, we ended up with an out-of-nowhere 80-degree day in the middle of February.

It was a fun day that I hope we get to repeat several more times before we pack it all up and leave New York.

I am more excited than I could ever explain about the future and all of its potential. But, at least for now, I will be trying to soak up as many great memories here at home as I possibly can.

Hudson Valley, I’m going to miss you.

Thanks for everything.
